Understanding Pip Values

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest price movement in a forex pair. For most pairs, a pip equals 0.0001 of the quoted price. Understanding pip values helps you manage risk and calculate potential profit or loss accurately.

The pip value changes based on your lot size and the currency pair being traded. For USD-quoted pairs, the pip value per standard lot is always $10. For other pairs, it depends on the exchange rate.

How Forex Trading Works

Forex (foreign exchange) is the global marketplace where currencies are traded against each other. It is the largest and most liquid financial market in the world, with a daily trading volume exceeding $7.5 trillion.

Currency Pairs

Forex is always traded in pairs — when you buy EUR/USD, you're buying euros and selling US dollars simultaneously. The first currency is the "base" and the second is the "quote." If EUR/USD rises from 1.1000 to 1.1050, the euro has strengthened by 50 pips against the dollar.

Leverage & Margin

Leverage allows you to control a larger position with a smaller amount of capital. With 1:100 leverage, a $1,000 deposit controls $100,000 in currency. While leverage amplifies potential profits, it equally amplifies losses — you can lose more than your initial deposit.

Spreads & Costs

The spread is the difference between the buy (ask) and sell (bid) price of a currency pair. It represents the primary cost of trading. Tighter spreads mean lower costs. With IUX Raw accounts, you can access spreads from 0.0 pips with a small commission per lot.

Leverage amplifies both potential profits and losses. You may lose more than your initial investment. Spreads shown are indicative and may vary depending on market conditions and account type. Forex trading carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. Past performance is not indicative of future results. Please ensure you fully understand the risks involved and seek independent advice if necessary.
